Navigating Life's Challenges and Changes: How to cope with change with resilience and strength

Hey there, lovely souls!

Life is an incredible journey, isn't it? Full of twists, turns, and unexpected detours. But what happens when those bumps in the road feel more like roadblocks, stopping us dead in our tracks? How do we summon the strength to push through and keep moving forward?

As a Mental Health Counsellor specialising in supporting women through life's ups and downs, I've seen firsthand the incredible resilience that lies within each of us. Today, I want to share some insights and strategies for navigating those challenges and emerging stronger on the other side.

1. Coping with Change by Embracing Change

Change is inevitable. We might not like it too much but it is a constant in our lives. Whether it's a diagnosis of chronic illness, the end of a relationship, or the whirlwind of parenthood, life has a way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect it. Instead of resisting, try embracing change as an opportunity for growth and transformation. I love the changing of the lens in which we see certain things. If you think about it there are always two ways to see things. In the end, the choice is yours.

2. Coping with Change by Building Resilience

Resilience is like a muscle – the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes. Cultivating resilience involves developing coping skills, fostering positive relationships, and learning to bounce back from setbacks.

3. Coping with Change by Allowing Yourself to Feel

It's okay to have feelings. We must let those feelings have their time and space. Often, it's the fighting against them that causes more problems than the feelings themselves.

Recently, I experienced a significant life transition when my girls left home. The emotions that arose were intense and overwhelming. I found myself in a dark place, struggling to make sense of it all. However, instead of trying to push those feelings away, I allowed myself to feel them fully.

I rode the wave of emotion for a week, letting each feeling wash over me without judgment or resistance. Slowly but surely, the intensity subsided, and I found myself reengaging with the world again.
